Kahner's Story

I received permission from Kahner Bowen and his Grandma (my Sister Debbie) to share this story with you. It took me a while to realize how close this was to me, but after talking with Debbie, it is story about our family.

Kahner is my Sister’s Grandson. I have always been Uncle Donny to him and because he such a Great Kid, I always will be.

Kahner is 11-years old. He loves to skate board, ride his bike and do all the things an active young boy desires. He likes to dress cool; he has allot of friend’s and is learning how to play the trumpet. He and his Grandma live in Oregon City Oregon and Kahner is in the 5th Grade. He likes School and is doing his best to get the past behind him.

His life has not always been as perfect as it is now. Kahner was forced to experience some events that nobody should ever have to go thru, especially a 6-year old child, but because this young boy is so strong, and because of the guidance he has from his Grandma, Kahner is making it just fine!

Last month, in one of Kahner’s classes at School, the entire class was given an assignment. The assignment was to write a story about drugs. A story of how, if any, drugs had affected their life or someone they know. After you read Kahner’s story he wrote, on his own, you will be able to understand what a strong young boy Kahner is and how terribly worthless Meth use can be. Meth can and will, affect not only your own life, but the life’s of entire families, especially the Kid's, FOREVER.

Kahner wrote……..

Hi, my name is Kahner. When I was a little boy , my Mom did drug’s. She died from METH and here is my story.

I remember when I was little; me and my Brother (Zak,) were hungry. My oldest Sister (Tiffany) went to tell Mom. She opened the door where our Mom was at. My Sister saw Mom doing drugs. She told Mom that we were hungry, Mom said, “I am busy.” So, my Sister poured some cereal on the floor. Me and my Brother started eating the cereal on the ground.

I Love my Sister (she was 6), she did allot for me and my Brother. One time Mom locked me and my Brother in a room, while Mom was doing drugs. I remember when my Mom got in a fight with her boy friend; I was there when it happened. My Mom’s boy friend said, “Come with me.” She took some scissors and scared him away!

So, here’s most of the stuff I remember when I was little. Now my life is GREAT! I like to skate board. I live with my Grandma. My Grandma has been taking care of me REALLY GOOD! Kahner.

Well, now that I have dried my eyes, my hat goes off to Kahner for the Strength and Courage it must have taken him to write this story. I don’t know if he received a grade on the assignment, but I would give him an “A”.

Please carry this story of Kahner’s in your heart and mind. This is a prime example of how Meth is affecting our Kid’s. Oh, and we forgot to mention, Kahner’s Mommy’s name is Rainbow Promise. She was born June 29, 1975. Rainbow died of drug complications December 21, 2001, Rainbow was 26; Zak was 2; Kahner was 3; and Tiffany was 6. Rainbow was a very sweet girl and our entire family, and her Kid’s, miss her terribly. Debbie takes Kahner to the cemetery and he stands by himself at her grave, and wonders why. He talks to her and only Kahner will ever know what their conversations are about; I can only imagine!

Thank you Kahner for allowing Uncle Don to add this Awesome story of yours to our web site.

You and I can only hope that some Mommy or Daddy will read your story and stop what they are doing,

before their Kid’s have to stand atop them and wonder why!
